Jumpers over 100kg
Do you weigh 100 kilos or (a bit) more? There’s still a chance to make a parachute jump at Paracentrum Texel!
At Paracentrum Texel, tandem passengers who weigh more than 100 kilos can often still do a tandem jump. However, this is not always possible, and a tandem passenger must never weigh more than our maximum limit of 115 kilos (this includes your clothing and shoes).
To allow a parachute jump when you weigh between 100 and 115 kilos, the following points must work out perfectly on your jump day:
1: the Weather
In addition to the usual weather conditions we depend on (wind, precipitation, cloud cover), the wind must be just right on the jump day.
Not too strong, not too light, and not from certain wind directions.
2: the Physical Condition of the Tandem Passenger
- The jumper must have enough muscle mass in their legs. For people with large thighs but little muscle, hanging in the harness can be very painful.
- The jumper must (like all other jumpers) be able to lift their legs to a 90-degree angle for 10 seconds during landing. Hands and arms may also be used for support. Lifting the legs is necessary for a safe landing.
3: Presence of a Suitable Tandem Instructor
- On the jump day, there must be a tandem instructor present who is willing and able to handle the extra physical strain.
Often these are available, but all circumstances must be evaluated on the day itself before we can decide whether we can jump with you or not.
If you think you meet the above physical requirements, you can just make a booking!
IT DOESN’T ALWAYS WORK OUT UNFORTUNATELY
Be aware that there is a real chance that your jump may not be able to go ahead. For example, if weather conditions don’t allow it or if there’s no tandem instructor present who is willing or able to handle the extra physical strain.
If a tandem jump cannot go ahead on a particular day, you can try again on another day. Or, if you can’t make the jump due to your weight, you can receive a refund.
So it’s not guaranteed that you’ll jump if you weigh over 100kg, but you do have a fair chance!
HOW TO BOOK AT 100KG. + ?
Booking steps for jumpers over 100 kg (but not heavier than 115 kg including clothing and shoes):
- When booking online, enter 99 kg as your weight, instead of your actual weight. Link to the booking page.
- On the jump day, you will always be (discreetly) weighed at check-in. If it turns out you weigh over 100 kg, our staff will adjust the weight in your booking to your actual weight.
- Your booking will then be submitted to our planning staff. They will assess based on the current conditions whether your jump can go ahead that day.
- Is it not possible (specifically due to your weight)? Then we will let you know personally (discreetly) and you can request a refund if desired.
- Is it possible? Then you’ll be called up as usual when it’s your turn to jump.
Can’t figure it out despite these steps, or do you have any questions? Feel free to contact us!
WHY THIS LIMITATION?
For tandem parachute jumping, we maintain a maximum weight of 115 kg, including clothing and shoes, to ensure the safety of both the participant and the instructor. Weight affects various factors, including the load on the parachute and equipment. When the weight is too high, the parachute may function less efficiently, which affects control and stability during the jump and landing.
Additionally, weight plays an important role in the physical strain on the instructor. Heavier weights can make it more difficult to execute the jump safely and in a controlled manner, which increases the load on the instructor. Passengers must also fit comfortably in the harness and be able to move sufficiently, especially during landing, where it’s essential that the passenger can lift their legs high.
By maintaining the maximum weight, we ensure that the jump remains safe and comfortable for both the passenger and the instructor, and that the equipment can function optimally. Safety first!
