the most beautiful job in the world

There are people who have never made a parachute jump, and there are people who always eagerly look forward to their next jump. Anouk belongs to the latter category, one of our very experienced instructors at Paracentrum Texel.

How it Started

As a little girl, Anouk was already fascinated by everything related to speed. If something exciting was on the agenda, little Anouk was the first to step forward.

Parachuting was at the top of her list, and in 2005 that dream came true. “I was eighteen years old and came to Texel with one goal: I wanted to learn to parachute jump.

I didn’t make a tandem jump first, but immediately started the Accelerated Freefall (AFF) training. During this training, you learn everything you need to know to make a solo free fall in a short time.”

From Rookie to Instructor

This AFF training turned out to be a bullseye. “After my first jump, I immediately knew I had found my calling. Only people who skydive know that magical feeling of that breathtaking experience.”

All summer of 2005, Anouk was at the paracenter from early morning until late at night. “I did all sorts of chores, and whenever there was a chance to make a jump, I did. It was fantastic. Eventually, I went through all the steps and made it to instructor.”

Every Jump is Special

For Anouk, parachuting is her passion and her life. The counter now stands at over 13,000 jumps. As an instructor, she traveled the world for years and jumped at the most diverse locations. From Australia to Switzerland, from Colombia to Dubai; you name it.

But after all those wanderings, she returned a few years ago to the place where it all began for her. “There’s nothing like jumping over Texel. No matter how many jumps I’ve made here, each jump is still special. It remains spectacular.”

TOP LOCATION

It’s no coincidence that Texel is known worldwide as a top location for a skydive. Anouk: “People come here from all over the world to jump. That’s unique. For instructors, it’s also attractive to work on Texel because there’s always plenty of work. Lots of work means lots of jumping.

That means many skydivers who are considered the absolute world top are “simply” working here as instructors. It’s fantastic to work with people who share the same passion as you.”

Euphoria, Joy, Wonder

Anouk enjoys every jump over the island, the atmosphere at work, and her job as an instructor. “All day long, I meet new and interesting people, each with their own story. In a relatively short time, you build a bond of trust.

The trust I receive from people gives me a good feeling and makes my work extra special. And then after each jump, there’s the release: euphoria, joy, wonder. You can’t have a better job, can you?”
